Tuesday!

Every Tuesday, we post specific items you should gather in order to supplement your emergency car kit, your 3-month supply, and your longer-term storage. If you are new to our blog, don't worry! You won't be left behind. Just start up where we are and follow along. You will eventually have everything completed! Once the car kit is complete, we'll be putting together 72-hour kits again (week by week). Once those are done, we'll gather the car kits again. So don't worry, just jump on in and join us where we are today!

This week for your car emergency kits, add some water. You should have one bottle of water per seat in your car. Easy enough! These may not fit in your box, but that's ok.

There were some questions about what kind of box to get for the kit. Abs and I use clear plastic boxes, which you can find in the home storage section of the store. You can use whatever you'd like - a plastic box, cardboard, etc. Whatever works for you, or whatever you have laying around, is just fine.

How is your three month supply coming along? Remember, it's much easier to achieve this if you have a plan!! Once you have your master shopping list, you can really take advantage of sales at the store.

We're gathering beans this month for our longer term storage. There are many kinds of beans you can stock up on - pinto, black, red, kidney, etc. I like to get a good mix of each. Beans are very versatile and store very well. Need some recipes using beans? Check them out here!

It's a good idea to wrap a piece of tape around the top of the bottle of water so the cap doesn't loosen while bouncing around. Also, putting the bottle into a gallon sized ziplock bag may help it to not get everything wet inside your bag/box. I've had two bottles leak unexpectantly and get everything wet & mildew.

Thanks for the idea. I really appreciate all that you are doing here, and sharing with us.

1 16 oz bottle of water is probably not enough if you live someplace hot...like the Phoenix AZ area. On a 110-degree summer day if your car breaks down on the road, that water will disappear pretty quickly!!
