Tuesday

Every Tuesday, we post specific items you should gather in order to supplement your 72-hour kit, your 3-month supply, and your longer-term storage. If you are new to our blog, don't worry! You won't be left behind. Just start up where we are and follow along. You will eventually have everything completed! Once the 72-hour kit is complete, we'll be putting together emergency car kits again (week by week). Once those are done, we'll gather the 72-hour kits again. So don't worry, just jump on in and join us where we are today!

This week for your 72-hour kits, add a small sewing kit.

How is your 3-month supply coming along??  Remember it can be very overwhelming if you don't have a plan.  Make a food plan, then write up a master grocery list.  Stock up when things go on sale.

This month for our longer-term storage, we are gathering wheat.  Click here to find out more information about wheat, and click here to see some recipes using wheat.

I totally added that sewing kit two weeks ago! We were at the Dollar Store (and every type of these stores I have ever been to has sewing kits).

I saw the little carrying case it came in and thought it would make a cute little wallet for my 20 month old and her "credit" cards. I put the sewing kit in a ziploc that is destined for the car kit as soon as the car is fully unpacked. We're buying a new car, possibly this week, so we'll be breaking our normal tradition of just keeping our 72 hour kits in the car (but only breaking it for a few days). We do this because we always have a car with us.

Thank you for the 72 hour kit suggestion. They have been on my to get list, so I went right out and bought them. Now my girls and I are packing the kits tonight. What a comfort to know we all, even my married kids, have a good basic kit.

I'm new to your blog, I like it. I've got some wheat and misc. items stored, but I'll be joining your systematic approach to building a 72 hour kit.
