Tuesday

Every Tuesday, we post specific items you should gather in order to supplement your emergency car kit, your 3-month supply, and your longer-term storage. If you are new to our blog, don't worry! You won't be left behind. Just start up where we are and follow along. You will eventually have everything completed! Once the car kit is complete, we'll be putting together 72-hour kits again (week by week). Once those are done, we'll gather the car kits again. So don't worry, just jump on in and join us where we are today!

This week for your car kits, add a book or magazines and some jumper cables. Many people like to keep a small set of scriptures in their cars. Or, you could just add a paperback novel or some magazines. These really come in handy if you're stuck somewhere - waiting for a tow truck, waiting for the kids to get out of school... anything. You should be able to find something around your house for this. And, the jumper cables are important for obvious reasons. :)

How is your three-month supply coming along? During the giveaway last week, you shared your concerns and challenges with food storage. Hopefully in the next few weeks we'll be able to address these issues and find ways to make food storage easier for you.

This month for your longer-term storage, it's the "grab bag" month, meaning you can stock up on whatever you want. It can be something we already assign (oats, wheat, beans, or rice), or you can stock up on other things. There are many other food items you probably want more than three months of, but maybe not a whole year's worth (or, maybe a year's worth - up to you!). I'm going to stock up on white flour and pasta this month. Other options include honey, pasta, powdered milk, yeast, white sugar, etc.
