Want to win your own #10 can of Granola with Milk & Blueberries? Just leave a comment on this post telling us,
What's the best book you've read recently?
I realize that "recently" may mean a year ago for some of you (everyone is so busy, I know!), but I always love book recommendations so let me hear them!
This giveaway is open until tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. EDT, and the winner will be announced soon after that. One entry per person, please.
Be sure to head over to Emergency Essentials to see all the other good stuff they have! I don't know about you, but I've already started my Christmas lists (giving and hope-to-receive lists), and I'm definitely thinking of leaning toward more practical gifts this year (you know, food storage/emergency prep stuff -- really!). Emergency Essentials is a great place to start!

A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson. It changed the way I look at everything and it made me feel smarter. :)
ReplyDeleteThe Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman. Teaches that each person has their own way of showing love and needing love. For example, it doesn't pay to show my love to my husband by doing all kinds of good deeds for him if what he needs is positive affirmation. I recommend this book to anyone actually, it's not just for married couples. It has showed me how to love my kids better too. My husband and I are now giving this book as a wedding gift.
ReplyDeleteI loved "The Help." Great book. Hope to see the movie.
ReplyDeleteJane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte - I read it once back in high school or college and couldn't remember a lot of the details, so I read it again as the new movie came out. It was SO good. Much better than I remembered.
ReplyDeleteAlso I am reading a collection of short stories "Masterpieces of Mystery and Suspense" compiled by Martin Greenberg. Those are great too, because it is a lot easier to finish a short story than a whole novel.
My Husband and I are reading the complete works of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and we're just about done.
ReplyDeleteThe Chase, by Clive Cussler

ReplyDeleteThe most recent book I read was "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron. One of the main ways I'm planning on earning my independence from my 8-5 job is by publishing my science fiction works. I was having a terrible problem with writer's block because I couldn't get past the stress in my life and this book completely solved it. I'm having new ideas pop into my head every day almost faster than I can get them on paper. It was truly inspiring and I would recommend it to anyone.

ReplyDeleteA tie between 'Lights Out' and a series of books by Thomas Sherry. All Fantastic books!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the book that change my life was "You Can Farm" by Joel F. Salatin. As a person who wants to provide for my family whether it be TEOTWAWKI, SHTF, a natural disaster, or a loss of a job, this book inspired me to learn to be a husbandman. I think a seriously overlooked skill in survival and preparedness is husbandry. It takes time and skill to raise animals and become a producer rather than a consumer. Team up husbandry with some quality food stuffs you will be ready for anything!

ReplyDelete"Save Me" by Lisa Scotoline, enjoyed it quite a bit.

ReplyDeleteThe Simplicity Primer by Patrice Lewis. It has some good thoughts to help stay centered and focused on home, family, community and self-sufficiency.
ReplyDeleteRichard Paul Evans, 'The Walk', and 'Miles to Go'. A continuing story about who has everything the good life in our country can offer, and then in the span of one month looses everything. Even the love of his life. Then after becoming homeless and having no where to turn, he gathers up what little that is left in his life that has any meaning, puts it and some essentials into a backpack, and sets off to walk the longest route possible across this country. These first two books were SO interesting, that I read them both in the same day. Best part? The story continues.... Spring of 2012.
