It's another GIVEAWAY - First Aid Kit! ****Contest Closed****

As we said yesterday, and last week, February just seems so long and dreary, so let's brighten up the day with another giveaway.

This week's giveaway is an awesome first aid kit from Survival Outpost! You can read all about the kit here, but let me tell you, it's got it all; I'm sad I can't just keep it for myself!

All you have to do to enter the giveaway is leave a comment answering this question:

What do you keep your 72-hour kits in? Do you use backpacks? Suitcases? Big plastic bins? Buckets? Plastic WalMart bags (I hope not)?

Don't have your 72-hour kits yet? That's ok, just leave a comment all the same - and start with a first aid kit!

One comment per person, please. This contest will close at midnight on Friday the 27th, EST.

  1. Well, I'm one of those 'bad' folks who doesn't have a 72-hour kit! Is it denial if I think, "I won't have to leave my home. I'm staying right here."? (maybe?:-)) Okay, I'll think about it....lol I have lots of preps, but no 72-hour kit. Thanks for the chance to enter another great drawing!

  2. My 72 hour kits are in rolling suitcases. The thought was that if we had to walk away and not drive, that we could roll them, however if we had to cross any terain other than concrete or asphalt, I would be in trouble. They are so heavy that they dont roll well in pinestraw for example. They just drag it all in the wheels of the suitcase. (Maybe I am too prepared) NEVER!

  3. Mine are not complete. But what I have is in backpacks and army duffel bags.

I also have a smaller kit in each car trunk. I think of that as a get home bag.

    ReplyDelete
  4. One backpack for each of us. Six in all. Of course, the adults have bigger ones. Also a tub to hold the big extras. I need to get one with wheels!

    ReplyDelete
  5. Mine are in a box in the garage right now...I need to start looking for backpacks for all of us now that I'm finished with getting all of the supplies together.

    ReplyDelete
  6. We have our 72 hr kits in backpacks for our four children and bigger duffle bags for the adults.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Ours are in backbacks and a couple of buckets (to be used as seats or pottys in the need arises).

    ReplyDelete
  8. Ours are in backpacks but the supplies inside probably need some updating.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Backpacks all the way!
I used to use a crate of sorts but my husband thinks backpacks are best b/c he could carry it all if necessary haha.

    ReplyDelete
  10. We use backpacks. One for everyone to carry.

    ReplyDelete
  11. We have one backpack per person all ready to go. Now the question is just where in our house to put them???

    ReplyDelete
  12. Backpacks in the garage, ready to go.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I don't see the point at this time to do separate bags. For now we do a bucket.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Our 72 hour packs are in backpacks for those who have them, and bins for those who have yet to get backpacks.

    ReplyDelete
  15. We have backpacks just waiting for me to put our 72 hour kits in them. I do want to have a bucket for some extras too.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Well, I do not have my 72 hour kits put together yet, but I do have the backpacks (enough I hope)to put them in when I do do it! Just found the blog and love that there is someone to tell me what to do step by step and break it down in a doable time frame. THaNkS!

  17. Our are still being compiled, so for now they are in a basket in the basement. When complete, they will be in backpacks.

    ReplyDelete
  18. backpacks and an army duffel bag; thanks for the change to win

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  21. Ours are in backpacks in the garage. You have the best giveaways. Thanks!

  22. Great blog, and great giveaway! We have a backpack for each member of our family, as well as a waterproof bucket that is filled with items everyone will use (emergency stove, food, soap, etc.)

    ReplyDelete
  23. We use backpacks so if we need to leave our home they are ready to wear and go. I try to continually update them depending on my kids ages and what size diapers the youngest is wearing!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Our single 72 hour kit is in a bright colored rolling suitcase, your blog is inspiring me to do more. This first aid kit would be a great kick start for me.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I have a backpack and a small tub. I like Candy's idea of a rolling suitcase. Thanks for all the great ideas.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I am currently a student in a major U.S. city, who doesn't own a car, which makes the whole "bugging out" thing a bit complicated. However, just in case, I have a sturdy hybrid camping/everyday backpack that I keep ready to go. It's stocked with the basics, including several days worth of MREs my ROTC roommate donated to the cause. The only real problem with weight is with water, so I have distributed it with water bottles, a camel back, and a side, hanging bottle.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The kid's are in backpacks. Mom and Dad's are currently in transition between backpacks/tubs to monster rolling backpack/suitcase.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hi ladies! I keep my 72-hour kit in a huge, rolling duffel bag. The heavy food is in a separate backpack and 2 of the 4 kids have their own small backpacks with snacks, toys, and clothes. I also have a plastic crate that we could take if we didn't have to walk. Hopefully, all of this can go in the wagon or in the car if we need to leave. This is the most prepared I have ever been! Thanks to you guys! Keep up the great work!!! Anna

    ReplyDelete
  29. A backpack, but we need another and we still need our first aid kit! :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. We have them in backpacks but I want to find some sturdy metal frame backpacks in case we actually have to lug these things around someday. :)

Thanks! I'm hthaden at gmail dot com.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Ours are in older backpacks that we didn't have to purchase!

    ReplyDelete
  32. mine is a work in progress with the goal to complete the 72 hr kits with an extended first aid kit by Easter. I'm a nurse and sad to say, don't even have a regular first aid kit, so this would be a great start to win this. I have most of the stuff and the backpacks, just haven't organized the stuff together yet..it's on THE list! Thanks for all the ideas and for the giveaways and for the site, I'm gonna check out their products. Lorie

  33. Ours are in buckets. They probably should be in backpacks so they can be carried easier, but the buckets stack nicely in the coat closet. We do have one bucket doubling as a car kit and part of the 72 hour kit. This kit looks awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Backpacks on wheels with tons of pocket to keep things organized.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Ours are in backpacks, although I like the rolling suitcase idea (maybe the smaller version). I think I'll add a bucket as well for the toiletries, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I have yet to complete our 72-hour kits, but they are in the works! I have a backpack for each of us (and even a kit for our dog). Ours will contain water, food, wing stove and fuel pellets, first aid kit (don't have this yet, so winning would be SWEET!), flashlight and batteries, a space blanket, poncho, a change of clothing, a small amount of cash, pen and paper, small books and cards for the kids. The dog's kit contains food, water, a leash, a stake and rope (in case I need to tie her up somewhere), a chew toy, and a copy of her vaccination record.

    ReplyDelete
  37. We are working on ours. Our first step was to get a bag to put our stuff in. We got a 38" (it is big) rolling duffle bag with an option of wearing as a backpack. We need a first aid kit for it so.... thanks for the giveaway. Maybe I will win.

    ReplyDelete
  38. My kits are currently in backpacks, although I fear that as I add more things to it, I might have to get a bucket!

    ReplyDelete
  39. The car and office kits are kept in red back packs we got at the dollar store! Because the house kit is a bit more "detailed" ; ), I put "them" in two five gallon buckets!

Back in the day, when the kids were all at home I stored it in a 50 gallon lawn/leaf trash can on wheels. Let's just say when I have a bad 72 hours, I will sleep comfortably!

    LOVE this blog!

    ReplyDelete
  40. What I have of my 72 hour kit (I'm still working on it) is in a backpack and some duffle bags.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Backpacks in case we have an emergency where we need to get out quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  42. so far i only have 1 72 hour kit for 5 people! and it's in a backpack. i'm aiming at getting a kit per month together.

    ReplyDelete
  43. We keep our 72-hour kits in backpacks and 5-gallon buckets. (No Walmart bags.)

Thanks for your blog and the giveaway!
    Kathy

    ReplyDelete
  44. We just have ours in #10 cans. Food only so far, so we NEED a 1st aid kit. :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. We keep our 72-hour kits in backpacks for mobility. We currently have 2 for the adults and intend on getting junior sized packs for our kids.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I have a backpack with some supplies in it but its a far cry from where it should be. Better get working on that one!

    ReplyDelete
  47. We just have the one in our bathroom. We need more for 72 hour and car kits.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Still re-building ours, but we use small suitcases with wheels. Easier on the back!

    ReplyDelete
  49. We keep our 72 hour kits in big camelbak backpacks and keep them in the coat closet by the front door for a quick place to grab them if we had to, and with the camelbak we can store a little extra water without taking up a whole lot of space.

    ReplyDelete
  50. What we have are in backpacks, but I think that we are missing quite a few of the things we should have. Hmm... I will have to look into that again.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Now that we live in a flat area, we use our old backpacking backpacks. And we use a plastic bin for our evacuation box.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Our 72 hour kits are in prepared backpacks in the trunk of our car. We ordered ours off of emergencyessentials dot com, and we love them!!!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I barely started my 72 hour kits, so they are in my pantry at the moment. I was just thinking about this yesterday. We don't have backpacks for everyone, so I may start with our rolling suitcases to start.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Ours are in backpacks, as well.

    What a fantastic giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  55. At the moment, ours is in one giant backpack. However, since it contains several size 3 diapers, and my youngest is 4 years old and fully potty trained, I think it's time for an update. The first aid kit would be a great place to start!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Another contest...how fun!

Right now our 72 hour kits are in backpacks and hanging on hooks right inside the basement door. I plan to add a 5 gallon bucket with gamma lid for each of us as well. We plan to carry bedding and clothing in them and possibly use them for stools in case there would be nowhere to sit. One could also be used as a toilet if necessary.
Thanks again for the chance to win a very nice gift.:)

  57. I'm still working on mine. But what I do have are in backpacks. Once I get all the basics in the backpacks, I'd like to get a rolling bin for the bigger stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I have a few duffle bags and a backpack that I store under my bed.
It would be nice to add a first aid kit to it!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Backpacks, but they're nowhere near complete.

    ReplyDelete
  60. We have ours in backpacks. However, that just means my husband and I. We now have added 3 kids to the family, and they don't have theirs yet. Definitely something to work on. Soon!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Each of our boys has their own backpack for 72 hour kits. We actually waited until school backpacks were super discounted last fall and they are very nice! I have a firefighter's backpack for myself and hubbie hasn't found one he likes yet.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Each family member has a back pack stuffed full...I might need to get an extra one for mom and dad...too much stuff!

    ReplyDelete
  63. I came in a little late on your 72 hour kit schedule, so I am waiting for the next go-round. I do have gas masks, though. Don't know if you included those at any point in your list, but they are a good thing to have, and unfortunately in this era of terrorist activity, a necessary emergency item. My father owned a military surplus store before he sold it and moved to Utah. I wish I had gotten all of my 72 hour items from him before he moved!

    ReplyDelete
  64. We keep ours in a backpack and also those canvas grocery bags.

    ReplyDelete
  65. We have a heavy duty rubbermaid container in the trunk of our car that is holding everything nicely.

    ReplyDelete
  66. We have part of our 72 hour kit started:)So far,we are keeping it in a plastic bin(from the corner store, with the top that flips up to open in the middle). But as we keep going(there are 6 of us)we will need to get another 1(or 3,lol).

  67. We keep our main 72 hour kit in a rolling suitcase, and our individual ones in backpacks with our individual clothing, toiletries, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I have a big suitcase I want to put it in...haven't gotten to that yet...soon!

    ReplyDelete
  69. I am gathering rolling backpacks for the kids. For hubby and myself we will be using the larger 'carry on' type of rolling suit-case.

We are working on gathering items signature to each person. (We have a child who is tube fed, and eats special food)

    Thanks for the awesome site!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Mine are in backpacks, but they really need to be updated!

    ReplyDelete
  71. I've got mine in backpacks. Right now I've just been collecting stuff so they are very unorganized but at least we've got something to grab!

    ReplyDelete
  72. The personal kits are in assorted recycled backpacks and luggage pieces we found at yard sales and thrift shops. Then we also have a few 5-gal buckets for the car, if we have time to grab those in an emergency. Your blog helped keep me reminded to work on those - thanks! I'm working on a car kit to keep in the Jeep all the time.

    ReplyDelete
  73. 72 hour kit.. my excuse is we still live in an apartment.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Ours used to be in back packs in the back of our car. After the ice storms we decided to just keep it all in the basement in big plastic bins with snap shut lids.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Ours have a few gaps contents-wise, but they're kept in buckets with the gamma lock lids. Also, we have our camping gear packed together so that we can grab that too.

Because we're in a condo, our buckets are insided in the laundry room, and the camping gear is in the carport shed.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Each person in our family has their own backpack filled with the needed items. There is also a 4"x6" notecard attached to each for items that person to take as well. All backpacks are easily accessible on the floor of a hall closet leading outside.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Seeing as we are just starting putting our 72 hour kits together we don't have a container. I am thinking that it will be backpacks, the kids love having bags, and that way our arms will be free. I've tried the bucket route before, I like the water proof nature of them, but it really hurts my hands to carry it.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Our goal was just to have something by October General Conference last year- we have it in a big Rubbermaid tub and a giant Ziploc bag, with a few water bottles next to it. We are working on improving it with better food, and more necessary items. We have our first aid stuff in a gallon size bag near the 72 hour kit. We also have water in the van. We want to do backpacks, but there are 9 of us and we're improving it gradual...

    ReplyDelete
  81. Our 72 hour kits are in a combination of backpacks (essentials) and a rolling plastic trash can (never been used for trash). That way if we had to carry them, we can, but if not, we have a few extra things to take with us too.

    ReplyDelete
  82. My husband and I have backpacks and we have 2 rolling suitcases for the kids. We also keep a plastic bin in our trunk. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  84. Right now we have our stuff in big army backpacks...they are very heavy!

    ReplyDelete
  85. Backpacks are the way to go, at least when we get them organized and out of the backets!

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  87. We have ours in backpacks. We probably need to get a rolling storage bin for a few of the bigger items too. It is a work in progress. :)

    ReplyDelete
  88. I'm just starting mine, but plan on doing backpacks...the big hiking ones like you showed a couple weeks ago.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Each family member (and one extra kit) has a backpack kit. There is also one tote that has "communal" items, like shovel, axe, etc. This first aid kit looks awesome! Thanks so much for offering the chance to win it!

    ReplyDelete
  94. Ours are in backpacks. the backpacks are in plastic bins in the extra closet. We have a small kit int he car, too. Really need a first aid kit!

    ReplyDelete
  95. My 72-hour kit is in a military-grade duffel bag in our front hall closet.

The military duffel bag is very durable canvas with shoulder straps for a backpack-style carry, or a handle for hand-carry. It holds a lot of stuff.

Here's a link to the seller I got mine from (brand new!) on Ebay - very reasonable, as they usually go for $25-$30.

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  104. We keep ours in individual backpacks (not complete yet) and add to them as we can. The kids get smaller lighter ones.
    Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  105. I have my kits stowed in 6 tall 20mm ammo cans. They Sealed tight and The can would withstand a house collapse I would think. Thanks for the oppertunity to enter the contest

  106. We have rolling backpacks for now. I have three boys under age 5, so I'm still working on what to do for them because for now, they won't be able to carry their own. They are far from complete, but we're dilligently working on them.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Right now we have our 72-hour kits in back packs. But if we had to leave our home, I know my 2-year old wouldn't be able to carry hers, so I'm thinking about putting hers in a tiny suitcase with wheels.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Thank you for your wonderful and informational site! I appreciate your hard work and investment of time to educate and encourage so many of us.

Presently, my 72 hour kit is a rolling backpack. I have been very frustrated with this choice as it is stuffed, but I have more items that need to be included. Last weekend I purchased a rolling duffel bag. Hopefully, this will allow me more room to pack while keeping the ability to "roll."

    ReplyDelete
  135. Right now everything is in a big plastic bin, but hoping to obtain backpacks for everyone, and expand... Thanks for another great give-away!

    ReplyDelete

  147. We just updated ours from backpacks and put them in duffel bags that have handles and long shoulder straps. I like them because they have lots of different compartments to organize our stuff and are much bigger.

  148. We keep ours in backpacks. But we have some 72 hour food kits in our truck and they are in plasic bottles.

  149. We keep our kits in some backpacks we got from WalMart. I just hope they hold up since we didn't pay a ton on them.

  150. We keep ours in a big duffel bag my husband won from work.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Two are in backpacks, two are in messenger bags. We hope to upgrade to rolling duffles/packs but for now we make due with these in the closet.

  152. Wow! I just found your site through another blog--the more I read, the more I realized I am very unprepared--I have food storage etc for a couple of weeks (does that even count?), but although I'm good about stocking up for hurricane season, I'm NOT good about stocking up for anything else. Funny thing is, when I was a kid (in the 70s) my parents were huge proponents of food storage and long-term emergency preparedness. Maybe it's time for an early "2nd childhood".

  153. We keep ours in back packs.

  154. We have 5 72 hr. kits (one for each of us) and we keep them in backpacks in everyones closets so they are easy to get to!! My kids think they are so big and prepared having their own, they LOVE it.

  155. I'm unprepared right now (just switched into housing on campus at school) but when I was younger I was storm paranoid and had a small duffel/overnight bag packed with a flashlight, blanket and stuffed animal...

    ReplyDelete
  156. It's in a big ole duffle bag. Maybe it's too big? I need to update it and restock.

    ReplyDelete
  157. We keep ours in 5 gallon buckets. They can be used for so many things in and of themselves. Carry water or even use as a seat. If overland bugging out we have a garden cart that has big tires and is able to go most places.

  158. Right now it's in a rubbermaid bin. But I'm thinking I better move it to backpacks!

  159. I'm single, no vehicle, living in a bachelor suite, and have actually collected quite a lot of the food things. However, the 72 hour kit eludes me. (I don't have a hall closet, either, and the water is stored at the bottom of the linen closet already). I would love the 1st aid kit, though, and that would be a great addition to the preps. Thanks for the opportunity!

  160. We keep ours in duffel bags in my husband's study. All of the food inside has been placed in labeled ziplock baggies so I can grab Day 1Breakfast, for example, really easily. And, it won't ruin in case of water or spills.

  161. Our 72 hour kits are in tupperware bins. There is no first aid kit in there though...

    Love your site!

  162. Wow, this would be great, we are terrible and have not started our 72-hour kits though we have a list do to so.. I hope this can get me going..

  163. Ours are in hiking backpacks. Thanks for the chance to win! Love your site!

  165. Ours are in backpacks and a duffle.

  166. Working on getting our 72 hr kits ready and someday they wil live in backpacks.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Our 72hr kits are in backpacks. They actually need some updating as we speak. I'm thinking I would rather have some type of luggage on two wheels with a lot of compartments that I can just pull.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Our 72-hour kits or in backpacks right now but we just bought rolling backpacks that are bigger.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Backpacks are definately the way to go when we finally get in gear and put them together.

    ReplyDelete
  170. We have ours in a big vinyl bag that snaps at the top. We need to get some backpacks as well to put things in.

    ReplyDelete
  171. I am working on ours. I found some small rolling suitcases today at WAL*MART for $6 a piece!!!

    ReplyDelete
  172. We keep ours in our garage: the food in a big plastic bin, clothes in backpacks, miscellaneous stuff in a big bucket. Cool giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  173. We keep ours in backpacks. We also have our "emergency evacuation essentials" (i.e. my husbands backpacking stuff which includes a lightweight tent, sleeping bags, cooking essentials, etc and normal camping stuff, all the necessary stuff for outdoor living) next to them in big plastic tins so we can grab and go all at once if we need too.

  176. Ours are in sturdy "backpacking" backpacks. We also keep one in the car that is in a regular size backpack.

Thank you for keeping such a useful and needed blog! You're saving hundreds. I've turned my family onto following this blog too, we can all use the education!

  177. Our essentials are in backpacks, and we have a rolling duffel filled with "luxury" items...well, they'll feel luxurious in a crisis. :)

Thanks for a great blog and a great contest.

  179. A toolbox. It has multiple layers and, while it can get heavy, the supplies inside do not get damaged. It's a great one to keep in the car for camping trips, etc. I'm sure we need a smaller one to go in someone's backpack.

    ReplyDelete
  180. I'm just getting started with mine, but I plan to have a backpack for each person, hung in the coat closet. The baby's items will go in my pack, the extra water, etc., will go in my husband's, and the dog will carry her own pack in one of those doggy hiking packs...if I can find one second-hand!

  181. We have backpacks, but need to add a few more items to complete them.

    ReplyDelete
  182. Ours is in two small backpacks and a plastic tub. Not the best, but a least most of it is all in one place.

    ReplyDelete
  183. I don't have them but I need them! Send that first aid kit my way!

    ReplyDelete
  184. In backpacks. The food is in #10 cans--supposed to last up to 10 years.

    ReplyDelete
  185. What little I have is in backpacks at the moment. . . this would be a welcome addition!

    ReplyDelete
  186. backpacks and still completely. had to discard some old stuff last week. this would be great to add.
